The AgXcel GX2 & GX5 Series of diaphragm pumps require minimum maintenance.
Starting with the GX5 hydraulic diaphragm pump, it is recommended that every year that you change the oil. You should use a non-detergent, SAE30 oil. The smaller pumps use close to 1qt of oil and the larger pumps use close to 2qts of oil.
The GX5 diaphragms should be changed every two to three years. If the diaphragms don’t get changed, then the diaphragms will eventually tear. If this happens, you will see two things happen. Either the oil will leak into the fertilizer, and you will be running the pump with no oil. Or fertilizer will be mixed with the oil which can rot out and seize the cavity of the pump. Both problems can also cause the pump to no lock in on target rate.
And finally at the end of the season on use, it is highly recommended that you completely rinse out the GX2 or GX5 pump with RV washer fluid that is rated for below the coldest it normally gets in your area. Ensure that the washer fluid goes through the entire pump system and plumbing and out to each row.
